At NIST\, we have the enjoya ble jobs of combining i) state-of-the-art research with ii) the fascinatin g search for higher and higher accuracy measurements. \; In this talk\ , I will i) introduce the SI system of units and explain why devices that can move around single electrons one-by-one are of great interest\, ii) gi ve an introduction to the nanoelectronic devices known as single electron transistors and pumps\, iii) describe a high-accuracy measurements of the charge of electrons in a metal\, and iv) discuss the possibility that this charge is not the same as the charge of a free electron in vacuum.
