"Precise Measurement of the π → e υ Branching Ratio"Anthony Palladino , University of Virginia [Host: Don Crabb]
ABSTRACT:
The PEN experiment aims to measure the semileptonic decay π → eν(γ)(πe2 decay) branching ratio at PSI, with an ncertainty of ΔB/B∼5Ã10-4,or better, using a large-angle detector system featuring a pure CsI calorimeter. This experiment will give a stringent test of lepton universality. Preliminary results from a basic level analysis of data from the first two developmental runs will be discussed.
These results, coupled with a discussion of experimental techniques, such as the use of a segmented active degrader and target waveform digitization, will demonstrate our ability to control systematic uncertainties in the experiment.
