Text: Cutnell & Johnson "Physics" 4th ed --- Class 12:30 - 1:15 pm – Physics room 203

Tests: There will be three closed book midterm tests and a final exam given only on the dates specified in the syllabus.

Homework: Problem sets will be assigned according to the schedule shown below. They are due during the week indicated, and are handed in to your discussion section Instructor at the start of the discussion. Homework concepts can be discussed with other students, but copying solutions is not allowed. Two problems from each set will be chosen at random and graded. Solutions will be posted promptly in the glass covered case in the hallway next to room 202.

Discussion Sessions: You must enroll in one of the 9 discussion sessions. Homework will be graded by the discussion instructor. Problem solving in discussions develops skills for the course exams and the MCAT.

Grades: The components of your grade are as follows:

Midterm tests:

45%

Final exam:

30%

Homework:

25%

The overall class average will be approximately the B-/C+ border; the A-/B+ line will be roughly ten percent higher, and the C-/D+ line will be about 20% below the average.

Attendance: Student participation in lectures and discussion sessions has been a highly reliable indicator of exam performance, course grades and prospects for medical schools.
