Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics

The Department of Physics at the University of Virginia invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in experimental condensed matter physics. This appointment will begin August 25, 2012. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Physics or related field, postdoctoral experience, an outstanding research record, and an aptitude and commitment to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates with outstanding records in all forefront areas of experimental condensed matter physics are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to establish a world-class research program that adds significantly to the department’s strengths in condensed matter physics while at the same time interfacing with existing programs in Physics and other Departments across the University.

Research Associate in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics

The Department of Physics at the University of Virginia invites applications for a postdoctoral Research Associate to begin in Spring 2012 to work in the area of experimental condensed matter physics. The successful candidate will work with Prof. Despina Louca. The candidate will be working on the structure determination of crystalline systems using neutron and x-ray scattering techniques and will be responsible for sample preparation, characterization and scattering experiments, data analysis, and simulations. Also the candidate will be responsible for publications and dissemination of results at conferences. There will also be opportunities for individual research or collaboration with other UVa faculty and postdocs.

This is a one year appointment; however appointments may be renewed for an additional two, one-year increments, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.

The completion of a Ph.D. degree in Physics is required by the appointment start date. Candidates must have effective oral and written communication skills.

Research Associate in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics

The successful candidate will work with Prof. Austen Lamacraft on a range of problems in many-body physics, field theory, and statistical mechanics. There will also be opportunities for individual research or collaboration with other UVa faculty and postdocs.
