DESCRIPTION:Nevzat Guler \, Old Dominion University\n\nDouble spin asymmetr
ies for the proton and the deuteron have been\nmeasured in the EG1b experi
ment using the CLAS detector at Jefferson\nLab. Longitudinally polarized e
lectrons at energies 1.6\, 2.5\, 4.2 and 5.7\nGeV were scattered from long
itudinally polarized NH 3 and ND 3 targets.\nThe
double spin asymmetry Ak has been extracted from these data as a\nfunctio
n of Q 2 and W with unprecedented precision. The virtual phot
on\nasymmetry A 1 and the spin structure function g 1 <
/sub> can be calculated from\nthese measurements by using parameterization
s to the world data for the\nvirtual photon asymmetry A 2 and
the unpolarized structure functions\nF 1 and R. The large ki
nematic coverage of the experiment (0.05 GeV 2 \n< Q 2 <
/sup> < 5.0 GeV 2 and 1.08 GeV < W < 3.0 GeV) helps us to bet
ter\nunderstand the spin structure of the nucleon\, especially in the tran
sition\nregion between hadronic and quark-gluon degrees of freedom. The re
sults\nfrom EG1b combined with other experiments provide a good descriptio
n of\nthe virtual photon asymmetries making their parameterizations possib
le\nin a large kinematic range. In this talk\, the results on A 1
sub>\, g 1 and the first\nmoment Γ\; 1
1 \nof the deuteron will be presented. The parametrization efforts\
non the asymmetries and the spin structure functions will be discussed. Th
e\nneutron spin structure function\, extracted from the combined proton an
d\ndeuteron data\, will be shown.
