DESCRIPTION:Seunghun Lee\, National Institute of Standards and Technology \
n\nNeutron scattering is one of the most powerful tools for studying magne
tic and structural properties of solids. It has made seminal contribution
s in a wide range of fields in condensed matter physics and material scien
ce\, from high Tc superconductivity\, colossal magnetoresistanc
e to quantum magnetism. In this talk\, I will begin by introducing the bas
ic principles of elastic and inelastic neutron scattering techniques. I wi
ll then describe a few exemplary neutron scattering results from high Tc superconductors and quantum magnets that were crucial to underst
anding the physics of these systems.
