Graduate Student Research Highlights

Graduate Student Poster Competition

During the Spring of 1999 the Department of Physics initiated a poster competition to highlight graduate student research. The competition is aimed at students who are actively involved in a research project, but who are not near the completion of their dissertation. The intent of the competition is to increase awareness within the department of the variety of research topics currently under investigation by students, and to recognize student excellence in research. Each year all students who have not yet entered their fifth year in the graduate program are invited to prepare a 4' x 4' poster. The posters are displayed in the main hallway of the physics building and are reviewed by members of the graduate program committee. The committee awards three students with research fellowships for the following year based on research content and clarity of presentation:

1st Place: $2,000 stipend enhancement for student + $1,000 stipend reimbursement for research advisor's grant.

2nd Place: $1,000 stipend enhancement for student + $500 stipend reimbursement for research advisor's grant.

3rd Place: $500 stipend enhancement for student + $250 stipend reimbursement for research advisor's grant.

Each year's posters will remain on display in the physics building until the next competition. Several of the posters have been reproduced electronically and can be viewed below.
