Some web sites and starting points for web searches

Yahoo's Acoustics index

Auditory Perception pages at McGIll University.

PHYSICS AND PSYCHOPHYSICS OF MUSIC Course notes for a class at Australian National University. This site includes a section on the physiology of hearing.

WWW Index of sites related to science of vision. Not much of this looks useful for our purposes, but check out the section on "Tutorials, Notes, FAQs, and Proceedings," which includes the next entry.

Kaiser, Peter K. The Joy of Visual Perception: A Web Book

The Visible Human Project "The Visible Human Project is an outgrowth of the NLM's [National Library of Medicine] 1986 Long-Range Plan. It is creating a complete, anatomically detailed, three-dimensional representations of the male and female human body. The current phase of the project is collecting transverse CT, MRI and cryosection images of representative male and female cadavers at one millimeter intervals." This site also has links to other projects derived from the same data.

the whole brain Atlas at Harvard

Here's a handy biomechanics bibliography from the University of Toronto. This looks like a grad student's page, so it may not be there forever.

Magazines, Journals, selected articles online

Biophysical Journal (QH 505 .A1 B537) This gets you to Table of Contents and abstracts. You can find hardcopies in the SEL (1960 - current) & BIO - PSYCH (holdings? BIO-PSYCH-JOURNLS - Note:SHELVED ALPHABETICALLY BY TITLE) Libraries.

Provine, Robert R. 1996. Laughter. American Scientist. January-Febraury 1996. This may be too marginal, but the middle section about "the sonic structure of human laughter" might be useful.

Nature (Q1.N2) After filling out an on-line registration form, you can access the Table of Contents and summaries for the last four issues, science-policy news, including searchable news archive, and supplementary information and PDF index. These pages serve as a useful companion to Nature, which is available in hardcopy in the Physics Library (past ten years), and the Science & Engineering Library (1869 - current issue).

Science (Q1 .S35) Unless you're a member of AAAS, this only gives you access to news summaries, the Table of Contents, This Week in Science, Science Professional Network, and Science Electronic Marketplace. Hardcopies are available in the Physics Library (past ten years), and the Science & Engineering Library (1883 - current issue).

Scientific American (T1.S5) Current and previous year's issues. The Physics Library has 1976 - current. SEL has 1849 - current, with some gaps.
