Research Interests

Bob’s research explores questions in Elementary Particle Physics on the CMS Experiment (http://cms.cern.ch) at the CERN LHC Collider in Geneva Switzerland. Our group explores the limits of the Standard Model of particle physics on multiple fronts, including studies of the Higgs boson, searches for new physics signatures, and precision measurement. We are also actively engaged in R&D for detector design and the development of high performance electronics for detector systems. Our hardware efforts include electronics upgrades for the CMS Hadron Calorimeter and the development of a new readout system for the CMS Electromagnetic Calorimeter, capable of processing ~10TB of data/second and providing precise energy reconstruction and timing information for the future High Luminosity LHC. An interesting part of this effort includes the study of real time algorithms to enhance the physics capability of the system as well as simulation studies to characterize the ultimate capabilities of our detectors. Other areas of study include R&D for new, high performance detector concepts targeted at future particle colliders.

I am happy to offer support and guidance to other first generation students finding their way through the academic environment.
