Graduate Studies in Physics

Dear Prospective Graduate Students:

Welcome to the Website of the Department of Physics at the University of Virginia. We would like to take this opportunity to quickly introduce you to our graduate program. You can find useful links to information concerning details of the application process, financial aid, program of studies, research activities, our faculty, Charlottesville and the surrounding area below.

We offer programs leading to the M.A., M.S. and Ph. D. degrees. Students who are admitted to the Ph. D. program are supported financially by a variety of attractive fellowships as well as by Teaching and Research Assistantships. Our faculty are engaged in cutting-edge research in both theoretical and experimental physics, which is carried out locally and at leading laboratories in the US and abroad. In addition, we participate in several interdisciplinary programs with the Medical School, Engineering School, and Chemistry Department, to name but a few. As a Ph. D. student, you will have ample opportunity to do research in a large selection of fields. Your progress will be closely monitored by a research committee in order to guarantee your success during your graduate career.

We invite you to click on the links given below to find out more about our department and the University of Virginia. If you wish to visit our department, please contact us and we can arrange to give you a tour of our facilities.

Best wishes for future success,
